Department of Energy Streamlines Enterprise Wide Procurement Processes with PRISM

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)

The mission of the Department of Energy is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental, and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.

Five years ago, the Department of Energy set out to reduce the number of procurement-related systems used across the DOE and streamline many aspects of the procurement process.

Important to that effort was finding a system that was:

  • Proven to work in government.
  • Fully automated, web-based, and provided a more efficient solution than manual paper-based contract administration
  • Able to be interfaced in real time to the DOE Oracle-based financial system.
  • Compliant with The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) legislation which required updates to all federal acquisition management systems

Compusearch PRISM.  The implementation of the PRISM COTS software at the Department of Energy is called the STRategic Integrated Procurement Enterprise System (STRIPES).

PRISM helped the DOE meet the emerging ARRA requirements while becoming an enterprise platform upon which they could standardize procurement best practices. A real-time interface from STRIPES to DOE’s Oracle Federal Financials system was created.  STRIPES is now fully deployed across the DOE and is used by more than 5,000 procurement and grants officers.
